Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

The gas dock is located on the south side of the entrance to the harbour and in operation from 10:00am-6:00pm daily during the summer months. To access the gas or diesel, please visit the Lower Bar and infom the staff you require gas. The staff will contact a member of the yard crew who will come and pump your gas for you. Once finished, payment can be made back at the Lower Bar, you may use interac, credit cards or chit to pay. Please note, to better serve the needs of our members and guests requiring gas, we now offer only premium gas and diesel at the pump.
The pump out facility is located beside the gas dock on the south side of the entrance to the harbour. Pump out fees are included with your membership. Please take care when using the pump out, and read the instructions posted. The attachment(s) necessary to pump out are always left at the station, however, if you can not find the piece(s), please ask at the office or bar for a replacement. Please remember, your boat should not be berthed at the gas dock and pump out for periods longer than fifteen (15) minutes.
Packaged cubes and blocks of ice are purchased from the bar. Please inform the bar of what you require, the ice can be picked up from the freezer located by the gas dock.
Dogs and other animals are not permitted in the clubhouse and must be on a leash at all times when on the grounds. Bicycles, skateboards, and roller blades are permitted on the grounds but must be used at a slow speed and are not permitted in the patio area or marquee tent.
The club has a house phone available for use in the main lobby.
The downstairs washrooms are accessible from the outside north entrance and from the main lobby. During the summer months, the outside entrance to these washrooms is left unlocked for boaters to get access to when they stay overnight. However, during the winter, all washroom doors are locked. The upstairs washrooms are located in the southeast corner of the clubhouse. For your convenience, outhouses are located around the harbour during the summer months. Shower facilities are in the clubhouse downstairs washroom.
Garbage containers are located beside the gas pumps and pump out as well as around the harbour. Please respect the property and place all garbage in the bins. Dispose of waste oil and used batteries off site. Do not leave containers of oil lying around. There are also garbage containers around the clubhouse and marquee.
To purchase alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, the club maintains the Lower Bar. Please review the bar hours and price list posted in the clubhouse. Alcoholic drinks are not permitted around the grounds except for in the bar, patio area and under the marquee.
We recommend reservations be made if you are bringing a group of 6 or more people to dine. Reservations can be made at 613-828-5167. Please contact our Events Manager at the same number if you are interested in information regarding a private event.
Parking is provided in the main parking lot for members and guests. It is not recommended to park on the street along the south wall of the tennis courts as this is a no parking zone and you risk being ticketed.
The mooring fee includes launch, haulout, winter storage and pump out. Please mark your cradles clearly. If you need work completed with regard to your mooring please fill in a service request form located in the front lobby and hand into the office.
Camping is allowed on the grass area near the Junior Club. Please notify the office if you plan on camping and always carry your membership card with you for I.D. purposes for security. Periodically there will be non-members camping on the property because of attendance at a BYC regatta.
Members are asked to be appropriately dressed at all times. Shoes and a shirt are mandatory in the clubhouse. Attire for evening dining is “Sunday” casual.
The club’s guest policy states that a member in good standing is entitled to bring the same guest three (3) times during the course of a year. No guest shall be premitted to be present on club premises more than three (3) times. Members are responsible for their guests when they are on club property.
As a member gratuities for Club staff are at your discretion.
Due to a City of Ottawa by-law adopted in the summer of 2001, smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the club house or under any covered canopy including the Marquee Tent and Upper Deck veranda. There are disposal recepticals around the clubhouse and at the main entrance.
Incident report forms, suggestion forms, service request forms, chit applications, and member information change forms are available through the office. Sailing related forms are located near the west entrance to the club underneath the race results boards.
Boutique items are sold through our office and Lower Bar. Purchases can be made from the boutique during office hours and bar hours. Items can be purchased using interac, credit card or chit.
The Club does not monitor VHF Radio

It is recommended that you review the latest copy of the By-Law #3 and Regulations to familiarize yourself with the conduct of the club and its authority. A copy is available through the BYC office or online in the members area of the website.
