Women's Fleet

Britannia Yacht Club Women’s Program

The BYC Women’s Fleet, on the Ottawa River, is part of the largest women's sailing program in Canada and has developed many excellent sailors and competitors alike. In recent years BYC women have represented the Club at the Bob Yuile Memorial National Capital Regattas c. 1957, Opti North American Championships and the National Women’s Keelboat Championships, to name a few.

We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from some experienced as well as world class sailors who volunteer their boats and time to coach. For that, we are truly grateful.

Regular Events and Activities

BYC runs extensive racing programs for keelboats, dinghies and sailboards throughout the week. Interested racers for the Monday Night Coached Boat Program (Fleet 2) are encouraged to sign up with the Women’s Fleet Rep to be assigned to a boat. If you have your own boat or access to one, you may wish to consider putting a crew together and start racing.

Women's racing on the Ottawa River is an interclub event involving members of the Britannia Yacht Club, Nepean Sailing Club and Club de voile Grande-Rivière.

Interclub Women's Up-River Race, September 18, 2021

The fourth annual Interclub Women's Up-River Race is scheduled for a 2 pm start on Saturday, September 18th. The race will follow the Queen’s Park course, approximately 8.4 Nm.

The race is open to all types of keelboats with women skippers and crew. Although all boats will start at the same time, there will be separate results for teams that are coached and for those that are not. Like Monday races, up-river coaches and boat owners can be men or women.

Whether you are already racing in the Monday night fleet or planning to create a new women’s team for this event, you are welcome. All participating boats must:

  • Prior to the race, be registered for Long Distance racing with the Interclub racing program jointly hosted by BYC and NSC. Please note that for keelboats already registered for Long Distance racing, it is either with a flying sail (spinnaker) or not. This will determine your PHRF rating for the Women’s Interclub Up-River Race as well.
  • Confirm participation by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
  • On the day of the race, check in with the BYC Race Committee Boat prior to the first warning signal.

Save the date and invite your friends to join us. If your boat is not already registered for Interclub racing or for Long Distance racing within the Interclub racing program, there is still time to submit a Racing Registration Form. If you are planning to helm a boat in the Women’s Up-River Race, or if you have questions, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
