Dear BYC Members,
Things are moving fast as we ramp up the successful time trial format as a replacement of some of our regular racing. I have some exciting news and a last minute scheduling change for you:
NEW - Interclub Thursday Evening Time Trials are being introduced to replace the Interclub evening races until further notice!
On Thursday evenings starting July 16th, sail against the clock in a handicapped time trial format. This replaces our normal Interclub keelboat racing until further notice. July 16th is a warm-up, then we will have a series of 5 evenings from July 23 to August 20, 2020. You still have to be registered for racing to compete in any of the time trials. Boats are still responsible to follow Provincial and Municipal laws, regulations and guidelines in social distancing and maintaining household/social circles with your crew while participating. Look here for new Time Trial Instructions. Open to all Lac Deschenes keelboats. There will be spinnaker and no-spinnaker divisions. Prizes for top boats. VHF 72 is open for friendly sailing advice between participating boats, to promote our spirit of community.
NEW AGAIN - Summer Sailors Meeting - postponed AGAIN until Monday July 20, 2020 - 7:00pm ET and will be held virtually to better accommodate the virtual requirement and the newly announced Time Trials need to take precedent. Details to follow on how to join and the agenda. NOTE: No facilities will be provided to attend at the club. You will only be able to attend virtually by telephone and/or webinar.
Also, as I am sure you have heard, the Stage 3 plans for Ontario have been announced. This announcement seems very promising for some of our normal sailing events, but there are still many restrictions and guidelines we have to follow. The Sailing Committee is meeting this week and we will discuss with the other clubs how we can continue to strive towards our new normal. Stay tuned!
