June Commodore Corner

Dear BYC Members,

This year, our 135th Anniversary, is off to a great start with the very well attended Mother’s Day High Tea, new member’s events, a fund raiser in support of the people of Ukraine, yoga classes, Commodore’s weekend and tennis and pickleball to name just a few. The Racing program has begun, Cruise week is in mid July, and a variety of social events such as Pub night, a great Canada Day celebration and Friday Night Entertainment.

Regarding the approved capital projects, we continue to see good progress. The new Opti boats are now at the Junior Club with the new coach boats expected next week. The kitchen renovations have been completed and below budget, and we are seeing a more efficient flow in the kitchen.
The old pumpout system has been deployed on a temporary basis as we work to implement the new system. We have ordered a new hose kit which will include new valves and deck fittings which should address this issue and help the function of the old pumpout pending installation of the new system.  If you encounter problems, please contact the office and request help. The goal for the new system will be to ensure that most boaters will be able to operate the system without assistance. We have started work with the plumber to install the new discharge line and will meet with the electrician next week to ensure we have sufficient supply for the new pump. We hope to see a new and improved system installed soon.

We continue to experience significant delays in the supply chain and labour related issues. Our staff are working up plans to deal with these challenges, thank you for your patience.

A reminder that all Student and Intermediate members that recruit a new equivalent member to the club will receive a food credit valued at $75. Please help your Club by passing news of this great new initiative along to young members.

Regards, Phil Moorman
