It has been another banner year for Youth @ BYC. With financial help from the OntarioTrillium Foundation a sailboat and a safety boat were acquired and a new launching dock will serve the program next season. BYC's community outreach offered campships this season to Christie Lake Kids who might not otherwise enjoy sailing.
The 2011 Learn to Sail/Race Awards Banquet held on Wednesday, August 31st was a packed house with almost 200 sailors, parents and family members attending. Dinner was followed by the distribution of CYA certificates, awards and trophies. T shirts bearing the BYC 125th Anniversary logo were given to each participant attending the Banquet. Congratulations to all participants!
Matt Soosalu and Joel Riordan (29er class) posted the best result for a Canadian boat in all classes at this year's Youth Worlds in Croatia. Their BYC coaches Rob Frost and Tom Arbuckle finished first in the 49er class at CORK OCR. The Canadian Yachting Association has selected Frost/Arbuckle team to be one of five to represent Canada at the upcoming ISAF Sailing World Championships in Perth, Australia. Dream proudly of representing Canada at the London 2012 Olympics and many thanks for being BYC's finest coaches and ambassadors!
We look forward in 2012 to continue celebrating youth and sailing in our 125th year!
A Special Thank You to the People of Ontario!
The young sailors at BYC, the members of Britannia Yacht Club and the Ottawa community at large acknowledge the generous support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
The recent capital grant of $15,000 will be used to upgrade fleet and launch facilities and greatly augment the capacity of the learn-to-sail program to deliver quality instruction to all.
All this proves BYC as a center for sailing excellence in a harbour of choice and bodes well for continued success in 2011!
